Artist Statement

My personal interest has always been around humanitarian concerns, which is often infused by my cross-cultural family background. In this work, I am inspired by the dense communal living spaces of slums. Its complexity in itself is aesthetic to me. An intensely inter-dependent, multi-layered structure that may be a narrative of a social issue or an admiration of the cultural construct of this space. This work aims to bring one beyond the photojournalistic or documentary perspective and appreciate it as an artist’s dialogue.
